How Should I Clean My Fish Tank Filters?
There’s a right way and a wrong way to clean your fish tank filters if you have decided to spring clean your fish tanks. The wrong way is to replace the filters at the same time you’ve cleaned the interior of the tank. Doing so upsets the delicate eco-system within the tank and can cause a dangerous ammonia spike. Instead, wait a couple of weeks before cleaning the filter since many beneficial bacteria would be residing in the filter media and can be re-introduced into the tank. Don’t forget to also clean the filter tubing and other parts of the assembly with a filter brush that can reach into the smaller crevices.
